Our Journey, Our Purpose
Rooted in legacy, driven by change – learn the story behind LEMBE-D.
Our Story
Founded in 2022, LembeD has been created by a dynamic force of female professionals. Our Non-Profit Company is 100% black-female-owned. The power of education is evinced throughout the tapestry of South Africa’s rich history; a legacy we wish to illuminate by designing sustainable education and health-powered development strategies in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Our Heritage
To pay homage to these academic trailblazers we have named our enterprise after a leader who not only embodies their collective intellectual strength, but one who is close in proximity to our own familial ties — Lawyer Anton Lembede who co-founded the ANC Youth League with colleague Lawyer Nelson Mandela, in 1944.
Our Heritage
Africa boasts a long line of leaders such as Oliver Tambo, Kwame Nkruma, Jomo Kenyatta, Nelson Mandela and Anton Lembede (After whom our entity has been named) who obtained high levels of academic achievement in the fifties. The common thread amongst this group of intellectuals is their devotion, ingenuity and effort to bring about Africa’s liberation.
Modern Challenges, Timeless Solutions
While the youth of the 1950s fought against socio-political injustices, today’s young people face unique socio-economic challenges that demand heightened academic skills. We bridge this gap by equipping learners from low-income communities with the tools they need to meet 21st-century market demands.
“Real education should educate us out of self into something far finer,
into a selflessness which links us with all humanity”
– Nancy Astor
Our Philosophy
We believe education extends beyond individual achievement – it creates ripple effects that transform entire communities and nations.
Other Important Social Causes in our Communities
Other social causes the LembeD Development Agency is proud to be associated with include:
• Mental Health
• Child/Teen health Support
• Old Age Caregiver Support
“Poor health impedes educational progress because a student with health problems is not prepared to fully engagein or take advantage of learning opportunities at school or at home”
Hanson, Austin, & Lee-Bayha, 2024
